The Sage of Forest returned to the Kokiri Forest, and spoke with the Great Deku Tree.

“Great Deku Tree, I have been tasked with holding the power of the Forest in my heart, in order to protect the sacred Triforce. I vest my power in the Forest Temple, erected in honor of the Forest, this spiritual stone, the Kokiri’s Emerald, and in you, as the guardian of this spiritual stone.” The Sage spoke with finality.

“I am honored, and shall guard this stone with my life,” replied the Great Deku Tree. “I shall die before I bestow this stone upon an unworthy soul. Within my bark, a dark labyrinth awaits. Any true hero will be able to conquer its challenges, and earn the stone.”

The Sage of Forest gave the Deku Tree the Kokiri’s Emerald, the Spiritual Stone of Forest, and then forged his Medallion of Forest, and locked it way, deepin the Forest Temple.

“Only the Hero of Time will be able to traverse through my temple, and retrieve my medallion. Only if my descendents fall and lay dormant, squelched by evil, will the medallion need retrieval.” And the Sage of Forest lived among the Kokiri from then on, with the Kokiri themselves never the wiser.
